November Edition

Wow! It's been a pretty busy month for us here at Starfish HQ. We sent another container to Malawi and were once again blown away by everyone's donations. High Commissioner's Golf Day - we had a fantastic time at the golf day on the 2nd November, with many wanting to know more about the work of Starfish Malawi. The London Beach Meal - we are really looking forward to our annual fundraising meal on the 22nd November. We will be joined by Emmanuel & Maryanne who are country directors of Starfish in Malawi. Some of you have asked if you can print our newsletter and the answer is YES! To make it easier for you, we have attached a PDF version of this newsletter at the bottom of the page. Here are just 3 stories we wanted to share with you this month...

Bedgebury Fundraising Walk

We had a marvellous walk in October in the Autumn sunshine at Bedgebury Pinetum and National Forest. Many thanks for those who came along and enabled us to raise nearly £800. The project that will benefit from this money will be our feeding programme for babies. Many new mothers are unable to feed their babies either due to ill health or in some cases, death. We have established a fund to provide formula milk to feed these babies. The cost of feeding one baby is £33 so with the money the walk has raised we can feed approx. 24 babies. Thank you so much!

Health Clinic

We give praise to God that the Health Clinic now has the roof on. The interior walls have been rendered and floors laid. The next phase is to complete the interior and to equip the clinic. Recently we had a very generous donation of some medical equipment from two hospital foundations, one in Manchester and one in Holland. We were given four treatment beds for the consulting rooms, an array of crutches and walkers and specialist walking frames with straps and tables for children with disabilities. The equipment has gone on container that has just left the UK.

Pastors Libraries are given hundreds of books and bookshelves

We are so grateful to Sovereign World Trust who have again donated boxes of books for our Pastors Resource Libraries. These are on our container and will arrive by January. In addition, they have also given new bookshelves to enable a better display of books. A recent comment from BLESSINGS MWANYALI, a library user: “I’m Blessings Mwanyali of Eleventh Hour Labourers Ministries. Our Church is located in Salima township and I’m a member of the Library at the main library. I would like to testify of how the books assisted me with my theological studies. I’m a student at ‘Hands On’ Africa Bible College and I was on a degree programme which I have just graduated in April this year. I did a five year degree course in theology and for me to pass all the subjects is because of the books which I've been using from the resource centre. All the subjects I passed with distinction, and the books which were mostly used are ‘The Messages of Philippians’, ‘The Messages of Colossians’, ‘The Message of Joshua’ , ‘Unlocking the Bible’, ‘Systematic Theology, ‘African Commentary’ and ‘The Purpose Driven Life’. I am thankful to Starfish for the Library because I found it easy to pursue my education - a thing that is not so in other places where they don't have a resource centre like this. My passion for studies has grown with the way I passed the just ended programme and I am now aiming to do a Masters degree since I know I will also do well since we have resources available in the Library.” To read the full report, please click here.
